Dr. Alaa Eldanasoury currently serves as Chief Medical Officer and Director of the
Cornea & Refractive Surgery Units of the Magrabi Hospitals & Centers, a chain of 21 Hospitals & Centers and the largest in the Middle East.

Dr. Eldanasoury was among the very first refractive surgeons to perform excimer laser surgery in the world and was the first to introduce many ophthalmic procedures to the Middle East including LASIK, Phakic IOLs, Intracorneal ring segments, Conductive Keratoplasty, Crosslinking, Corneal inlays, Premium IOLs and Femtosecond cataract laser surgery.

Dr. Eldanasoury served as President of the ISRS in 2009-2010. In 2011 he was elected to serve as a member of the AAO Board of Trustees. He is a member of the International Intraocular Implant Club (IIIC) and is currently a board member of the ICO.

He considers his best achievement is training more than 14 Cornea and Refractive surgery fellows; some of them are now leading ophthalmologists in their own countries. He has many peer reviewed publications, book chapters, invited lectures, and several hundred presentations at international meetings to his credit. Among the many awards he received are the Kritzinger Memorial Award and the Founders' Award of the ISRS, AAO Senior Achievement Award and IIRSI Gold Medal. He was also the recipient of many regional ophthalmological societies' awards.

Dr. Eldanasoury is from Cairo, Egypt, now based in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia and practices and operates in many countries in the Middle East.

Dr. Eldanasoury's hobbies include scuba diving and traveling, but his greatest sources of happiness are this wife Yomna and three daughters, Salma, Sara, and Laila.
