• Sequential Segmental Terminal Lenticular Side Cut Dissection for SMILE Description: This video shows Dr. Soosan Jacob's technique of "Sequential segmental terminal lenticular side cut dissection" for SMILE (Jacob S et al. Sequential segmental terminal lenticular side cut dissection. JCRS 2017) and is a useful video for beginners to watch in order to make the transition to SMILE easier. Awareness about the White Ring Sign, also described by her together with this technique helps to smoothen the learning curve. Anterior lamellar dissection is followed by initial central posterior lamellar dissection with sparing of a thin peripheral rim and the LSC till almost the end. This is followed by sequential, segmental dissection of LSC in a manner that fixes the lenticule in place and allows sufficient resistance to allow smooth and complete dissection of the posterior lamellar cut without any undesired movements of the lenticule. This technique is of advantage in thin lenticules where the risk of complications is higher but can also be employed in thick lenticular dissection using wider sweeps to sequentially separate the LSC.
