• White Ring Sign for SMILE Description: Difficult lenticular extraction together with the possibility of cap tears, partial lenticular dissection, torn lenticule, etc., may occur in Small Incision Lenticule Extraction (SMILE) surgery, especially if the posterior lenticular plane is dissected before the anterior plane. This video shows the White Ring Sign described by Dr. Soosan Jacob that helps to clearly differentiate between anterior and posterior planes to allow anterior plane dissection prior to posterior plane, thus facilitating smooth lenticular extraction (Jacob S et al. White ring sign in SMILE. JCRS 2016;42(9):1251-4). This sign identifies plane of dissection by determining the relation between the dissecting instrument and the white circular light reflex from the lenticular side cut.
